In recent decades,private cars,once a luxury that only rich people could afford,have become a common household transportation tool.We have to notice that private cars bring not only convenience to people’s daily transportation and job opportunities,but also environment problems. Admittedly,we cannot under estimate the contribution of private cars in modern society.Modern citizens have get used to driving,either to office or to places of shopping and recreation.Especially in developed country,a family may even have more than one car.Driving has to a large extent shortened the time spent on travel.In addition,people’s strong purchasing power has promoted the development of automobile industry that plays a crucial role in generating job opportunities.A large number of citizens are able to win themselves a decent job and a promising career development.
However,with too many private cars running on streets,a city will be plagued by air pollution and energy crisis.In metropolitan cities,a growing number of citizens choose to drive on a daily base.They have overlooked the fact that exhaust emission from automobiles will pollute the air and pose threat to people’s health.In particular,an idling car caught in traffic jam will emit more pollutants.Furthermore,the consumption of petrol by private cars has exacerbated energy crisis.Energy depletion is a worldwide threat.Undoubtedly,the per capital consumption of energy by automobile is much higher than that of bus or subway.In other words,the streets crowded by private cars are generating serious environment problems.
In a nutshell,the owning of a private car,though brings some benefits,has become a serious threat to environment,and we have to pay a close attention to the excessive growth of private car market.
